Keredusy® - The disinfection device for ventilators to protect against contamination with potentially dangerous pathogens, also effective against enveloped viruses, such as coronaviruses.

High hygienic requirements are placed on all medical devices that are used directly or invasively on patients.
Keredusy® stands in German for Keimreduktionssystem meaning pathogen reduction system and is used to disinfect internal air-conducting parts of ventilators. These parts cannot be reached with simple wipe disinfection, but must be disinfected in the same way as the housing of a ventilator before being used again. This is the only way to ensure that the ventilator is safe again for use on the next patient after disinfection. In addition, disinfection ensures occupational safety from microbial contamination for the technician who has to maintain or repair potentially contaminated ventilators.
With the assistance of the internal sensors, all disinfection parameters are constantly monitored and the disinfection is interrupted if the values fall below limit values in order to ensure the disinfection process. Documentation is carried out by protocolling and recording a disinfection protocol with all disinfection-relevant parameters. A printout of the disinfection protocol provides the customer with verification that disinfection has been successfully performed.

With the Keredusy® KR2000 , by using hydrogen peroxide solution 8% (H2O2), a full

  • mycobactericidal,

  • tuberculocidal,

  • sporicidal,

  • levurocidal,

  • fungicidal and

  • bactericidal,

efficacy is achieved.

In August 2022, the tests on the efficacy of the KR2000 disinfection system against enveloped viruses, such as coronaviruses, as well as against adenoviruses, noroviruses and rotaviruses were successfully completed by the Eurovir virological test laboratory. This also provides evidence of limited virucidal plus efficacy for the Keredusy® KR2000. An investigation of 700 CPAP devices done by METEC Medizintechnik GmbH revealed that nearly the half of the devices were contaminated in the inner part of the flow generator with viable microorganisms. Microbiological tests have shown that these microorganisms, especially pneumonia germs, can cause serious health problems to immunosuppressed patients. Patients who need to be provided by respirator are often healthily handicapped and are therefore more susceptible to microbial infections.

Ensuring patient protection
Ventilators are medical devices and in the European Union they are subject to the regulations of the Medical Device Directive 93/42/EEC. Consequently, the manufacturer of a respirator is obliged to integrate measures that allow a safe operation of his device. Therefore, the use of filters and regular filter changes are required to provide patient protection against microbial contamination. In hospital operations, it is largely ensured by organizational measures but there is also no automatic, echnically monitored documentation of the filter change here.
Ensuring occupational health and safety at the service provider
Service providers who perform technical service (maintenance, repair, etc.) on ventilators should appropriately sanitize the equipment prior to service work in order to comply with the rules and regulations of the employers' liability insurance association. If this is not possible, the employer must take appropriate measures to protect employees and provide appropriate personal protective equipment and take other measures to prevent the spread of germs. In practice, this results in increased space and personnel requirements.

The Keredusy®, which was specially developed for disinfecting the air-conducting parts of ventilators, ensures automatic disinfection while taking into account the specific requirements demanded for the reprocessing of such devices. This includes ensuring that no hazardous disinfectant remains in the ventilator after processing.

Benefits of disinfection with the Keredusy® KR2000:

  • simple,

  • economical,

  • safe,

  • tested,

  • certified.
